Terrestrial Projects Map

The BSCSP region has extensive land area that provides tremendous potential for greenhouse gas offsets through terrestrial carbon sequestration in forests, rangelands, and agricultural croplands. Based on current land use practices, the region can potentially sequester 6.7 million metric tons of CO2 per year in agricultural sinks. Currently, several Phase II field validation tests are active including (1) cropland assessments conducted in the "golden triangle" region of north central Montana, (2) rangeland tests to examine the effects of grazing near Cheyenne, Wyoming, and (3) forest sequestration studies in Idaho. Details about these research efforts can be found here.
